APRIL 12, 2007

Since there was only 7 people that showed up for class we were given the option to either finish the movie Borat go home. Of course we chose to go home, which made me very happy because I was not a fan of the movie at all!

Not True!

We were talking in class how often in research papers and autobiography the writer embellishes the truth. Sometimes it is very hard for the reader to even know that what the writer is saying is no true. I didn't know until we talked about it in class that the book A Child Called It was an example of this. I read that book when i was in elementary school and this whole time I thought it was true.

SNACK WRAP

According to Mr. Barry he invented the snack wrap at McDonald's. The chicken strips sales were decreasing and when he would get bored he would make his own concoctions and see if other people liked them. When he started giving out free samples to the customers, the manager ended up sending his recipe to corporate. Then the snack wrap was placed on the menu.

Questions

DON'T ASK QUESTIONS IN A RESEARCH PAPER!
Why do people ask question in research papers? The reason the reader is reading the paper is because they want to find out more about the topic or they don't know anything from the beginning. Why ask questions, the reader doesn't know or they would be the one writing the paper. I'll admit I have asked questions in research papers. Normally because I was using them as an easy way to make the paper longer.

Contemporary Fiction

At the beginning of the year we talked about contemporary fiction and how different it is now then what it used to be years ago. In my opinion I find a lot of it disturbing and too graphic for what I want to read, but I guess that is why everyone pick what they want to read.

Blaming Other People

"It wasn't my fault"
The majority Americans always blame things that go wrong on other people, things, or situations. We hardly ever take the blame for something we did. Mr. Barry said that his theory on this is because Americans are a majority of Christians. When something good happens we praise God and thank Him. When something bad happens we blame the devil. I don't really know how much of that I agree with. I do believe that people do thank/praise God when good things happen in their life but when bad things happen we should praise God to because through trials come perseverance and through perseverance comes hope. I don't think just because something bad has happen in my life that its the devils fault its because of my own action and because we are human with sin in our lives.

WE ALMOST GOT TO WALK

"Its a scary realization when you come to the the realization someone is trying to kill you"

-Mr. Barry-

FEBUARY 27, 2007

We almost got to leave class because Mr. Barry was late, but he walked in right when we were getting up to leave. He said he thought that someone is trying to kill him because in the past two weeks someone has let the air out of his tires twice. Then he told us about the time he caught some women who looked like she was going to pour bleach into his Mountain Dew.

SNOW DAY

Hilary Clinton

HILARY CLINTON for PRESIDENT....Mr. Barry said he would vote for Hilary just to see Bill be the First Man. As funny as that would be in the upcoming election I highly doubt I will vote for her. That is if she even makes it as one of the candidates, which part of me doesn't think she will but who knows.

The Truth About Lying

According to Judith Viorst there are four kinds of lies.

1. Social lies

2. Peace-Keeping Lies

3. Protective Lies

4. Trust-Keeping Lies

Clutter

During the first week of school we learned that many writings have way to much CLUTTER in them. It is important to have details in your writing but sometimes there are unneeded details and words that just clutters up the writing.

DO NOT USE:
  • it seems
  • I believe
  • perhaps
  • maybe
  • because
  • avoid adjevtives -use decpritons (nouns)

Family Values Gone

We talked in class about how family values are slowing disappearing. The economy is in such a money-hungry state that it is is slowing becoming less common that mother's stay home with their children. Many people believe that this doesn't effect their families and their values, but I think it does. Most of the time you can tell the difference in kids attitudes who are in day-care all day or those who stay at home with their mom's. Mother's have a very powerful influence on their children specially when they are young and it is important that they have that figure in their life. I thank God my mom was a stay at home mom. I wouldn't be who i was today if she wasn't.
